Taking The Fall - 315 Feet Down For Special Olympics

Ever have that dream, the one where you’re plummeting to the earth, reaching out for anything to stop your fall?  But the greatest reward, above all the hype, is the joy of knowing that they risked their lives so others could enjoy theirs.

with style.” At the bottom, again landing on my feet, the staff with Over the Edge and Special Olympics Hawaii gave praise and thanks, though I felt I was the one owing the big mahalo.

What Over the Edge and Special Olympics Hawaii have done here is nothing short of spectacular. For the public event on Nov. 13 (hey, what better day to risk life and limb than Friday the 13th?), 120 community members went “Over the Edge of Waikiki” for Special Olympics Hawaii, helping to raise $170,729.72 to support the sporting events for the annual Holiday Classic Dec. 5 and 6. This year, bowling, bocce and basketball will showcase the talents of more than 1,100 special athletes and their coaches from across the state. Each thrill-seeker had to raise at least $1,000 to participate in the rappel, and many a company was excited at the possibility of throwing their bosses off of one of the tallest buildings in Waikiki.
