Can you believe it- it’s almost 2009?! In less than a week the new year will be upon us, and what better way to prepare than to celebrate at one (or more, you have permission to party hop) of the many parties and events happening in Honolulu? Here’s a look at what our fair city has to offer for ringing in 2009 on Wednesday, Dec. 31.

Concerts:

Foreigner. The group will perform their popular hard-hitting rock songs as well as power ballads on New Year’s Eve at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel

Foreigner in Concert

The legendary rockers grew to stardom in the 1970s and ‘80s, and today Foreigner’s music continues to be popular. Catch the guys - Mick Jones, Kelly Hansen, Jeff Pilson, Tom Gimbel and newly added Michael Bluestein - at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. Opening act is Makana. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and Foreigner hits the stage from 10:30 p.m. to midnight. Dinner and concert packages range in cost from $275 to $400, and concert only tickets are $125-$250. Bangles In Concert

The Hilton Hawaiian Village welcomes ‘80s pop icons The Bangles to ring in the new year, featuring three original members of the all-female act. All the fun happens in the Hilton’s Coral Ballroom, with preshow entertainment at 9:30 p.m. and The Bangles taking the stage from 10:45 to midnight. MTV New Year’s Eve Celebration

BAMP Project presents Shwayze, Cisco Adler and DJ Skeet Skeet, MTV’s most-talked-about group of the year, performing at Pipeline Cafe to party into 2009. The hiphop duo Geologic and Sabzi of The Blue Scholars opens the night’s entertainment. Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets cost $45 general admission and $90 for VIP. Cruises:

The annual Aloha Tower Marketplace Fireworks Show will light up the sky at midnight on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Head to the marketplace earlier to enjoy live entertainment, activities for the kids and more

New Year’s Eve Cruise

Hop aboard the Navatek I where you’ll enjoy a welcome glass of champagne,appetizers,desserts and party favors to get you in the celebration spirit. Live entertainment is provided, featuring music from the ‘60s to current hits.Also, get an “on the water” view of the Aloha Tower Marketplace fireworks show. The Navatek I departs from Pier 6 at Aloha Tower at 10:30 p.m., returning at 12:45 a.m. Standard seating costs $145 and premium window seats cost $170. Call 973-1311 for reservations.


FireWater New Year’s Eve Yacht Party

Local promoters Shane Curtis and Paul Moor welcome New Year’s Eve partyers to ring in 2009 aboard the 170-foot Alii Kai Catamaran, featuring a live performances by bands Pimpbot and Lovechile,as well as DJ Mr Nick and Mixmaster B playing hits for the dance crowd. Sean D. emcees. Guests are treated to a view of fireworks and party favors, including a personal mini bottle of champagne courtesy of Korbel. Drink specials all night. Check in at 9 p.m. at Pier 5, diamondhead of Aloha Tower. The boat departs at 10:30 p.m. and returns at 1:30 a.m. Presale tickets cost $40, or pay $50 at the door. Group discounts are available for 10 or more. VIP bottle service is available and is the only way to access the observation deck to get a 360-degree view of the fireworks.
