Internationally celebrated surf photographer Clark Little has opened his first Hawaii gallery in Haleiwa and will host a grand-opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday during the monthly Haleiwa Art Walk.

“It is a dream come true to have a gallery right down the road from my house and so close to the beaches I shoot at,” said Little, whose family moved to the North Shore when he was 2. “I have driven through Haleiwa all of my life and never could have imagined to have a store there. Life really does take some wild turns!”

The 1,000-square-foot gallery in Haleiwa Town Center boasts a wide variety of open and limited editions of Little’s underwater seascapes and signature shore-break art on mediums that include glossy prints, giclee canvas, Plexiglas and aluminum. Also for sale are copies of The Shorebreak Art of Clark Little and postcards, calendars and T-shirts with his famous ocean shots.

Three photos on display were recently honored with Windland Smith Rice International Awards, and one garnered the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C., will exhibit two of them for six months later this year.

“These images are my favorite pieces right now in the gallery, since I am very proud of this accomplishment,” said Little.“It is one of the busiest museums in the world, and I can’t believe the North Shore ocean will be represented there.”

Little will attend the reception to sign autographs and mingle with his local supporters. There also will be live music, food, giveaways, a raffle and silent auction of his work, with proceeds going to Kokua Hawaii Foundation, Mauli Ola Foundation and Little’s alma mater Waialua High School, which “helped bring me to where I am.”

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 626-5319 or visit clarklittlephotography.com.
