Surf fans and festival-goers will be totally bummed this weekend, as the 2007 North Shore Festival originally scheduled to take place from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Haleiwa Beach Park has been cancelled.

Despite a two-day schedule packed with activities, including free entertainment, food and merchandise booths, a Keiki Village at Turtle Bay, autograph signings and a Sunday movie night - and vendor support at an all-time high - organizers pulled the plug on the event due to “a shortfall of sponsorship dollars.”

All festival vendors will receive a full deposit refund. For more information, call 499-8383 or go to www.northshorefestival.com

Jodi Wilmott of Ocean Promotion Hawaii said there will be “absolutely NO impact on Vans Triple Crown of Surfing”; [it has] totally different presenters and organizers. VTC is fully geared up to start Nov. 12, as it is the 25th anniversary of the series. It will be a very big and successful year.

“I hope we see the festival return next year - this community needs it,” she added.

Traditionally the festival kicks off the world’s most prestigious and longest running series of professional big-wave surfing events. The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing opens with the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa Ali’i Beach Park, and continues with three world-class events for both men and women, culminating Dec. 20 with the crowning of the 2007 ASP World Champions.

Live coverage of events can be found at www.triplecrownofsurfing.com. For festival information, go to www.northshorefestival.com or call 499-8383. North Shore visitor information is at www.gonorthshore.org or www.bigwaveshawaii.com
