July 1 is the deadline for Leeward Community College students to apply for vocational education scholarships from 16 scholarship funds at the Hawaii Community Foundation.

The program is geared toward students who want to further pursue courses such as culinary arts, cosmetology, auto repair, diesel mechanics, assertive medical technology and computer graphics.

“Vocational education allows students to further their education to enter the workforce in a specific skill setting, so they’re more readily employable,” explained HCF scholarship officer Rona Kekauoha.

Last year, the foundation awarded $5 million to 1,500 students, providing them with the opportunity to attend institutions of higher education here and on the Mainland.
