Central Oahu residents can help Hawaii Bankers Association fight hunger by bringing canned foods or monetary donations to local branches though May 31.

Branches of American Savings Bank,Bank of Hawaii, Bank of the Orient, Central Pacific Bank, Finance Factors, First Hawaiian Bank, Hawaii National Bank, HomeStreet Bank, Pacific Rim Bank and Territorial Savings Bank aim to exceed last year’s total of 33,000 pounds of food and $35,500 in monetary support for Hawaii Foodbank.

“We appreciate the member banks making their branches available to serve as collection points for canned food and monetary donations,“stated food bank president Richard Grimm.“It’s sad but true that even though we just completed a very successful Hawaii Foodbank drive, the shelves in our warehouse will be bare within a matter of weeks.”

Most-needed items are money, canned meats or fish, and canned meals, soups and vegetables.

Every donation helps feed Hawaii’s hungry.A $10 donation will provide 25 meals for hungry island residents. For more information, call 836-3600.
