For Will Szameitat, franchise owner of the new Blazin Steaks in Mililani Shopping Center, it’s all about location.

The born-and-raised Mililani resident jumped on the opportunity to open a Blazin Steaks when Maui Tacos closed its doors there.

“It was an ideal location between Starbucks and Jamba Juice,” said Szameitat, a 1996 Mililani graduate.“And I also still live in Mililani.”

The new steak-plate franchise, which opened July 10, is one of 17 Blazin Steak restaurants. The original store opened two years ago by owner and founder Richard Craft Jr.

“Besides the great-priced food, I chose this business because Richard is a friend of mine,“said Szameitat, who also owns All-In Clothing Company. “I also decided to get into it because I lost my job at Aloha Airlines, where I was a flight attendant five-and-a-half years. I felt it was a great opportunity during these tough economic times to open up an affordable plate lunch place.”

He’s referring to the franchise’s signature $6 steak plates. But this eatery serves up more than just steaks. The menu offers a sizable selection of offerings and flavors: The chicken plate is served broiled, hibachi, Korean barbecue, with mushrooms and Thai peanut-style. Also offered is broiled, Korean barbecue, sweet chili or Thai peanut opakapaka - all for $6, and includes two scoops of rice and tossed salad with choice of dressing. And there are combo plates: Steak and shrimp costs $8, and $7 buys a combination of any two menu selections.

“The most popular plates are the steak plate and the steak and shrimp plate,” said Szameitat.“Our shrimp is prepared with garlic butter.”
