‘Bon’ Is On And Yaguras Are Up On North Shore

The tradition has already begun in Central Oahu as Buddhist congregations honor departed ancestors during the summer obon season. Local missions have announced their festivities, and the public is invited to attend and participate.


 

* Haleiwa Shingon Mission, 66-469 Paala Road, will have its bon dance at 8 p.m. July 17-18. Call 637-4423. * Haleiwa Jodo Mission, 66-279-A Haleiwa Road, 7 p.m. July 24-25. Call 638-4382.

* Wahiawa Ryusenji Soto Mission, 164 California Ave., 7:30 p.m. July 24-25. Call 622-1429.

* Kahuku Hongwanji Buddhist Temple (last bon dance), 7:30 p.m. July 25. Call 293-5268.

* Waialua Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, 67-313 Kealohanui St., 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Call 625-9025.
