California Ave. Fix Is Coming

Del.icio.usWahiawa residents will be happy to learn that the rehabilitation of California Avenue will begin - once all permits for the project are accessed and the selection of a contractor is complete.
The city advertised for bids last month, and bid opening was scheduled for last week. The Department of Design and Construction expects work to begin this fall and last one year.
Water lines along the main road were installed more than two years ago leaving residents concerned about road conditions.According to City Councilman Donovan Dela Cruz, the new project will reconstruct the asphalt pavement structure,curbs and gutters,adjust the manhole frame and gutters and restore pavement striping, markings and markers.
“Unfortunately,the scope of the work will not include new sidewalks,“added Dela Cruz. “The city administration is firm in its position that because the Wahiawa Heights area was developed before the city upgraded its standards,an improvement-district process would have to be initiated to construct new sidewalks on upper California Avenue.”
Until the actual resurfacing work gets under way, Dela Cruz has asked that city crews fill in the potholes for the time being on upper California Avenue to allow for smoother travel.
