Mililani Presbyterian Church is in the middle of a capital campaign to add a new wing so its 38-year-old preschool will have its own room.

“Other groups have been generous in giving us money,” said Pastor Jim Tweedie last month. “We have about a half a million raised so far.”

First Hawaiian Bank Foundation awarded $25,000 to the church for construction, which will include a kitchen and work around the lanai. The bank has been a supporter of the church for more than 30 years, he said.

The current preschool site also is used at night as a meeting place for community groups such as the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and support groups.

“We want to be a resource to the community,” explained Tweedie, a Mililani Mauka resident who has been the church’s pastor since 1993. “If we have this new addition, we can offer more outreach to the community during the day once we move our preschool into the new wing.”

Located at 95-410 Kuahelani Ave., the preschool has about 100 students from 1 to 4 years old. For more information, call 623-6663.
