Residents and businesses in Waipio, Waikele, Crestview and Mililani can now take their mail to the recently opened contract postal unit in Waipio Industrial Court.

Located behind the Hawaii Okinawa Center, the 400-square-foot “Hawaii Plantation Store” CPU is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and features all the services of a regular post office - except for P.O. box rentals, claims, money orders and Ready Post.

“I’m a Waipio resident myself,” said the store’s owner-operator Karen James.“So adding the postal services to our business was sort of self-serving because there is no post office in the immediate area.”

James and her partners in Gemini Tech also provide computer repair, cellphone sales and service, and other technology services.

An official grand opening of the contract unit is set for 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 with prizes, entertainment, refreshments and product demonstrations.
