Three Central Oahu restaurants have signed on for the Designated Driver Summer Program, which means they will provide complimentary soft drinks to customers who choose to be a group’s designated driver.

Big City Diner (Waipio and all locations) and Kemoo Farms Pub & Lakeside Lanai, and The Shack (Mililani and all locations) are participating in the statewide campaign, which started Memorial Day weekend and ends Labor Day weekend.

The state Department of Transportation is sponsoring the fourth annual program. DOT figures show that in 2006, there were 161 traffic fatalities in Hawaii, 76 of them alcohol-related and 77 involving speeding.
