Hawaii Laulima Pacific, Zippy’s and Pepsico Hawaii sponsor a free drug education and safety workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (Aug. 9) at Hawaii Okinawa Center.

“Protect Our Keiki” shares facts about drug signs and symptoms, trends and additional dangers from the Internet. Hawaii U.S. Attorney Florence Nakakuni will introduce the event, followed by Gary Shimabukuro of Laulima Pacific and FBI special agent Arnold La’anui.

Hawaii has seen a growth in abuse of prescription medications, inhalants, various street drugs and abuse of cold medications, and the Internet presents the new challenges of identity theft, cyberbullying and cyberseduction.

Dinner is free, though reservations are suggested. Call 842-4940.

The event also offers informational booths from National Guard Counterdrug Program, DARE, U.S. Attorney’s Weed and Seed Program, Coalition for a Drug Free Hawaii and others.
