In its 23rd round of self-help projects for public schools, Hawaii 3Rs is targeting 40 more campuses for repairs and remodeling this summer.

Among them is Mililani High School, which will have a cafeteria wall partition replaced over the short summer. The work is valued by the state at about $100,000.

All 40 projects have a total value of more than $3 million, but 3Rs partnerships with volunteers and businesses cut the funding requirement to $1,336,300.

The Hawaii 3Rs Initiative was established by U.S. Sen. Dan Inouye in 2001 to reduce the backlog of campus repairs through “sweat equity” and cooperative work days with parents, businesses and military volunteers.
