Libraries Lure Keiki, Teens To Summer Reading Events

Central Oahu’s three public libraries have a slew of events planned to heat up the summer reading pace for all ages.

* At Mililani Library, preschoolers through graduating high school seniors can enroll in the June 12-July 14 Summer Reading Program. The theme for the children is Get a Clue, and for teens it’s YNK (You Never Know @ your library). Registration begins June 4.


A Preschool Storytime happens at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays in June beginning June 12 with Let’s Go Camping by Oogles N Googles. June 20 features It’s Book Time with Ronald McDonald.

Teens are invited to join Dr. Thomas Holland at 6:30 p.m. June 13 for a presentation and book signing on his forensic mystery series which was launched with One Drop of Blood.

* At Waialua, summer reading kicks off at 10 a.m. June 16 as Vicky Dworkin uses puppets and other props to take children on a storytelling adventure.

The Hawaiian Humane Society will show children how to care for pets June 30; master storyteller Dave Del Rocco shares Hawaiian tales July 6, and Haleiwa fire-fighters host storytime on July 14 - all at the Waialua bandstand.


Harry Potter Week is July 15 to 21 marks the release of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The summer finale is at 10 a.m. July 21 when refreshments, prizes and five winners Deathly Hallows books will be announced. Call 637-8286.
