Four Native Hawaiian healthcare agencies, including Ke Ola Mamo, recently won nearly half a million dollars from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in conjunction with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

With locations in Kahuku, Hauula and Waimanalo, Ke Ola Mamo was awarded $129,239 of the total. This amount is in addition to the $2.7 million in stimulus funding Hawaii received for 14 other health centers, announced in March 2009.

Ke Ola Mamo has served Native Hawaiians on Oahu for more than 10 years and is committed to improving their lives and health through a system of culturally sensitive services, intervention, advocacy, outreach, education and early detection screenings. It is one of the five systems created under the Native Hawaiian Health Care Act of 1988 and reauthorized under the NHHC Improvement Act of 1992. Its health services focus on better access and usage, breast and cervical cancer prevention, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, nutrition and fitness and HIV/STD prevention.

For more information about Ke Ola Mamo services, call its main office at 848-8000.
