Waikiki Health Center can now expand the reach of its pediatric health services to the North Shore, thanks to a $24,000 grant from the Public Health Fund of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.

The grant enables WHC to care for pediatric patients at its Ho’olalike satellite clinic in Haleiwa. The grant targets medically under-served Native Hawaiian children and provides care to runaways and homeless youths. Its services include well-child checkups, preventative care, treatment of childhood illnesses, immunizations and physical exams.

“We estimate that it will start sometime in February, but we don’t have an exact date,” said Sheila Beckham, WHC executive director.“It’s a matter of how to coordinate the days with our pediatrician, Dr. Lisa Kahikina.”

Kahikina is on staff at the health center as its primary pediatrician.

The Ho’olalike clinic operates out of Liliuokalani Protestant Church on Kamehameha Highway. For more information, call 922-4787 or 284-5212.
