North Shore Charities Receive $110,000 In Grants

Nineteen North Shore and Windward Oahu nonprofits recently received more than $110,000 from Friends of Hawaii Charities and two major golf tournaments played this year at Turtle Bay Resort.

The recipients are Education-1st Hawaii, Hale’iwa Arts Festival, Hawaii Fi-Do Service Dogs,Kahuku 2000, Kahuku High & Intermediate School, Kahuku Hospital, Ko’olauloa Educational Alliance Corp., Ko’olauloa Community Health and Wellness Center,Korean American Foundation Hawaii, Na Pua Aloha, North Shore Career Training Corp., North Shore Youth Athletic Foundation, Oahu South Foursquare Church dba New Hope Christian Fellowship, The Private Sector Inc., Save the Sea Turtles International, Sunset Beach Elementary School and PTCA, Waialua Elementary School, Waialua High and Intermediate School Foundation, and YMCA Camp H.R. Erdman.


“We are happy and pleased to assist a hard-working, dedicated group of community service agencies with project funding, which contributes to the specific needs of varied nonprofit service organizations in our state,” said Friends of Hawaii Charities president Anthony Guerrero Jr.

The two golf tourneys providing funds for grants were the Champions Tour Turtle Bay Championship, which returns Jan. 21-27, 2008, with a $1.5 million purse; and the Ladies Professional Golf Association SBS Open, the LPGA’s season opener, which returns Feb. 10-16 with a $1.1 million purse. Both Fred Funk and Paula Creamer will defend their titles.

The North Shore charities received their funds June 29.In eight years, Friends of Hawaii Charities has raised and distributed over $7 million to more than 250 nonprofits through various projects.
