The Oahu Arts Center is calling for local artists to apply for its winter exhibit, although it will be held once again in downtown Honolulu at Pauahi Tower Gallery - far from the Central Oahu location it still hopes to build on someday.

The show will run from Dec. 26 through Jan. 23, and the entry deadline is Dec. 12. For a prospectus, call Corrine Gallardo at 271-1344.

The fate of Central Oahu’s long-sought arts center in Mililani Mauka remains in limbo as the City Council considers whether to put the OAC’s official symbols (“public building” and “parking facility”) on the Central Oahu Sustainable Communities Plan infrastructure map.

According to Gallardo, the council’s Planning Committee heard 47 testimonies in support of the map revisions on Oct. 8 but deferred action and “instructed Castle & Cooke Homes (property owner) to go back in discussion with Oahu Arts Center and to keep the City Council apprised of the continuing discussion between the two organizations.”

The map designation (Resolution 09-142) would help preserve the parcel for use by OAC, as opposed to it’s being sold or put to another use by the landowner.
