Due to a rockfall that cut off water lines, power lines and an access road into the park, Waimea Valley will remain closed until the damage is assessed, the rocks have been removed and repairs have been made.

An assessment of the damage and costs are now under way.

About 10 large boulders, some as big as a car, will need to be broken up and then moved before repairs can begin.

With the park’s closure, all activities have been canceled until further notice, which includes the Makahiki Celebration that was meant to take place Nov. 22 and 23.

All normally scheduled programming and activities will resume when the park reopens at a future date, and the Na Leo concert, which was part of the Makahiki, will be rescheduled.
