Sea Cadets Graduate On Missouri Deck
The Battleship Missouri Sea Cadet Division graduated 20 new cadets during a ceremony last month at the battleship’s fantail.
Nearly half of the new cadets are from Central Oahu, including Benjamin Fernandez, Jon Rooney, Kayla Rooney and Alexander Park, all of Mililani; and Joseph Lawson and Nathanial Shanks of Wahiawa.
The youths, age 11 to 17, underwent two weeks of recruit training at Navy and Coast Guard venues to build sea skills,self-esteem,team-work, camaraderie and understanding of the military command structure. Along the way Navy personnel also aimed to instill patriotism, self-reliance and striving for a substance-free lifestyle.
