City planners will conduct a hearing next month on the long-awaited improvement plans for Sunset Beach Neighborhood Park.

The plans require a special management area use permit before construction and repairs can begin. The hearing starts at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at Sunset Beach Recreation Center, 59-540 Kamehameha Hwy.

The park site development plan includes reconstruction of play courts, replacement of play apparatus, a new volleyball court, ball field improvements, parking lot lights, accessible walkways, landscaping and drainage.

The park is next to Sunset Beach Elementary School and across the highway from Ehukai Beach Park.

For more information on the project, call the Planning and Permitting Department’s zoning regulations and permits branch at 768-8027.
