Good news for bus riders: Construction has begun on the much-anticipated Mililani Community Transit Center, and it should be finished in one year.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann and city officials broke ground last month, and construction is under way on the two-story facility, which will serve Central Oahu bus routes.

The center can accommodate up to 10 buses and will have an upper-level platform along Meheula Parkway over the edge of the Mililani Town Center parking lot as well as a passenger service building complete with clock tower, conference room, restrooms and a bike rack.

The location at Mililani Town Center will allow easier access to TheBus, said Hannemann at the March 20 ceremony, where he also thanked the community, neighborhood boards, Oahu Transit Services, landowner Castle and Cooke and City councilmen Nestor Garcia and Donovan Dela Cruz for their efforts in making the $4,198,000 project a reality.

T. Iida Constructing is the general contractor for the project.
