Lutheran High School students, faculty and friends are soaping up their sponges for their eighth annual All Lutheran Schools “FREE MEGA Car Wash” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wahiawa.

The students invite residents to take advantage of the free service, as they’ve already collected pledges for each car that they clean. Past projects have earned an average of $15,000, which supports LHS scholarships, class expenses and sports.

“We give each student a pledge sheet, and we tell them to get at least 10 pledges of at least 10 cents a car or more,” explained LHS athletic director Deems Utsumi.“We’ve had some people with deep pockets give $2 a car and, averaging about 100 cars per site, that adds up to a lot of money. For details, call 621-6033.

“The junior class has the junior/senior prom that they have to throw each year so money goes toward that,“added Utsumi.“Most classes with the extra money donate it back to the school in a senior gift. Part of it goes to our scholarship fund and some to the athletic department because it’s the athletic department that started this fundraiser way back.”

Additional donations are always welcome.
