Appropriately, the Hawaii Okinawa Center was the scene of Oahu’s final bon dance of the obon season, and that was just part of the fun at the Autumn Okinawan Matsuri Festival Sept. 15 at the Waipio Gentry gathering place. There were ono food booths, live music and plenty of people to celebrate with at what is also considered the largest indoor bon dance in Hawaii. Buses brought cultural groups from all parts of the island for the annual event, which was free and open from 5 to 10 p.m. Central Oahu folks can now look forward to the Winter Craft Fair at the Hawaii Okinawa Center (at 94-587 Ukee St.) But you’ll have to wait until Nov. 24-25.
