The first show of the year - and its first time in the Leilehua High School gym - the Kunia Orchid Society kicked off a busy blooming season March 14-16 in Wahiawa, saying goodbye to the old Kunia gym, which is much smaller than the LHS venue. The new space allowed for more vendors as well as the club’s own Kunia Kountry Store, offering hard-to-come-by orchid growing items as well as fruits and vegetables. The crowds were delighted by the fragrant blooming honohono, and Sogetsu Ikebana members shared tips on how to display the many varieties available. Nurturing the opu as well as the eye, the LHS athletic department sold kiawe barbecued chicken, while other student clubs manned fund-raising booths.
