The so-called off-season came and went for Mililani swimmer Kiana White without her noticing. The OIA champion in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breast stroke as a junior last season, White began preparing for this year by swimming five days a week in addition to three visits to 24 Hour Fitness.

“I’m hoping I’ll do really well,” said White, who competed in four events at last February’s Swimming and Diving Championships, including the 200 IM, where she took second.“It’s my last chance to prove myself to colleges.” (Her dream college is USC.)

Helping Mililani win another OIA team title is her focus for now. She and the Trojans have their first pre-season meet Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park. On the eve of her senior season, White took some time away from the pool last week to visit with MidWeek.

How do you feel like before the start of an event? I’m usually nervous and excited before a race. I just listen to my iPod to help myself relax. I’ll usually listen to slow songs. In the race, I’m usually just trying to beat the person right next to me. Beyond that, I’m just trying to finish.

Who’s had the biggest impact on you in your life? My mom (Carol) and dad (Philip). They both swam in high school - at Mililani, actually, and my dad swam at UH. They’ve both guided me along the way.

What Internet site do you frequent the most? I would say Facebook or Yahoo for my e-mail.

What is your least favorite household chore? Cleaning the bathroom. It’s just gross. I don’t want to clean a bathroom. That, or taking out the trash.

What movie could you watch over and over? Probably A Walk To Remember or Twilight. I like a wide variety of movies - scary movies, comedies, chick flicks.

Who is your most competitive teammate at practice? I’d say (junior) Alex Daley. She works really, really, hard. She’s a lot of fun to practice with, and she makes it more exciting.

What’s in your iPod? My friends tease me a lot because I have a lot of old songs in there - Prince, Edwin McCain, Jack’s Mannequin and Beyonce are some.

Do you play video games? No, I’m terrible at video games. My friends play them. Halo is one of them (games). I’m awful at it. Any shooting game, I can’t do it.

What would you like to major in at college? A while back I wanted to be a psychologist, but I’m still undecided. I’m also looking at business.

Are you a neat freak or messy? I’m a little bit messy and a little unorganized, I’m not going to lie.

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date? Oh. Hold on. Let me think about that a moment ... Taylor Lautner from Twilight.

You’re stuck on the Island of Kahoolawe. You can have an endless supply of one food. What would it be? Saimin. I like to make my own.
