When Mililani head baseball coach Mark Hirayama fills out his lineup card on game day, he always knows what he can expect from second baseman Troy Yoshizawa.

“He’s pretty consistent - a solid player overall,”

Hirayama said of the senior-to-be. “Last year, he really stepped up and became our starter at second, and he solidified us as our leadoff man.

“He’s solid up the middle, defensively, and he’s going to give us some leadership next year. Offensively, he gives us a start by getting on base.”

Yoshizawa and Mililani are currently in the midst of their American Legion League season with a pair of big games set for later this week versus ILH foes. The Trojans host Damien at 4:30 p.m. Friday, and on Sunday they travel to Hans L’Orange Park in Waipahu to take on Iolani.

Yoshizawa recently took some time away from the practice field to answer some questions for MidWeek‘s Central Islander.

What’s your earliest sports-related memory? I think it was hitting my first home run. I was 7, I think, and I forget which team I was on. I was kind of surprised.I didn’t usually hit the ball that hard, and I was kind of small then.

What’s the best part of playing in the Mililani program? How much support we have behind us from our parents, the coaches and everybody.

What areas of your game will you focus on during the ALL season and the summer months? I’ll probably work more on my batting. I didn’t do as well batting as I would have hoped this past season.

Who’s had the biggest impact on you in your life? My parents (Milton and Norine). They’ve always been there for me, and they always want the best for me.

What Internet site do you frequent the most? Probably Facebook.I talk to friends, and I play (the Facebook game) Bejeweled sometimes. You just line up different things to make them disappear and score points.

What is your least-favorite household chore? Probably giving my dog (Koa, a Chihuahua/fox terrier) a bath. I have a hard time catching him to take him (into the bathtub).

What movie could you watch over and over? I like Ninja Assassin. There’s a lot of action and a lot of fighting, which I like.I’ve probably seen it about three times.

Who is your most competitive teammate at Mililani’s practices? I don’t know anymore. Everyone’s been kind of lazy lately!

What’s in your iPod? A lot of Hawaiian music. I like Natural Vibrations, Rebel Souljahz and The Green - more mellow music.

Do you play video games? No, not really. I like going to the beach if that counts as a hobby.

Are you a neat freak or messy? I’m pretty messy. Normally, I know where most things are.

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date? Eva

Longoria (Parker) from Desperate Housewives. She’s just really pretty.

You’re stuck on the island of Kahoolawe. You can have an endless supply of one food. What would it be? I guess pizza - any kind of pizza.
