Like the rest of its OIA contemporaries, Mililani’s water polo team hopes it has saved its biggest efforts for its biggest games. Those are still to come, with the league post-season tournament taking place this week, beginning with quarterfinal round games Thursday.

The top five teams from that tournament earn berths in next month’s state championships. Mililani went 4-2 in the first round - good for third in the A Bracket behind Leilehua and defending champion Roosevelt - and was to learn of its first-round tournament opponent on Sunday when pairings would be final. But while the Trojans don’t yet know their first opponent, they know they will need a strong tournament from senior Alexzandria Daley regardless of who they play, if they are to make it to post-season. Daley recently took some time from her schedule to answer some questions from MidWeek‘s Central Oahu Islander.

How has practice gone lately as you get ready for the OIA Tournament? Coach Aaron (Waldrip) is all business. Although we have a fun bunch of girls on the team, Coach Aaron makes sure we’re on track and will be prepared to face some tough teams next week.

What areas of your game did you focus on in the offseason? Swimming.

Swimming is my first love, and I swim competitively year round. The better I do in swimming, the more I feel it helps my water polo team. Our team has really improved with our defense, and the faster we swim, the more difficult we make it for the other teams.

Who has had the biggest impact on you in your life?

“My parents”

is the obvious answer, however another person with a significant impact on my life would be Coach Aaron.

He taught me the game of water polo when I knew nothing about it and has taught me the true definition of patience and kindness. Thanks to Coach Aaron, I love the game, and it has impacted my life.

What Internet site do you frequent the most? Edline.Com - Mililani High School’s site, hee-hee! Facebook is second runner-

Dresses.

Who is your most competitive teammate at Mililani’s practices? We have many competitive team-mates, but if I had to choose the one that’s been the most competitive this year, I would have to say it’s Remi Kimura. Remi shows up and works hard on improving her game every day without complaint. She goes out in the games and is super aggressive on defense. I’m just thankful I’m not playing against her.

What’s in your iPod? Ezay E, Afroman and Atomophere are my newest add-ons. I like to rap.

Do you play video games?

Yes, but not often. I love Guitar Hero (on XBOX).

Are you a neat freak or messy? Definitely not a neat freak, and my mother does accept messy, so I would say I’m in between.

If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date? Michael Phelps, so he can give me some tips.

You’re stuck on the island of Kahoolawe. You can have an endless supply of one food. What would it be? Dim sum, any kind.
