Barbara Kawakami

There’s a treasure living in Mililani named Barbara Kawakami, and Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will honor the historian and award-winning author as one of its five Living Treasures for 2012. The award is based on her body of work to keep the Japanese plantation heritage alive through books, textiles, stories and her interviews with more than 250 aging Issei and picture brides.
