A $2.6 million road-widening project will help to improve traffic flow on Harding Avenue in Kaimuki and, according to acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell, it also will relieve congestion onto the H-1 freeway.

Contractor Paradigm Construction is preparing to widen Harding Avenue and create new left-turn lanes at two signalized intersections - Harding and 5th avenues, and Harding and 11th avenues. The new left-turn lanes should reduce delays at the intersections and provide more efficient traffic signal phasing.

“We’re putting federal stimulus money to good use to improve the traffic flow and public-safety in this area and others,” Caldwell said.

The project is being entirely funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and is expected to take up to 11 months to complete.

Start date is pending final coordination details.
