Pet owners in East Oahu will be happy to know that Animal Emergency Center, headed by Dr. David Glover, has opened in Kahala.

The facility operates every evening, weekend and holiday and is the first fully equipped, urgent pet-care facility in the area for after-hour emergencies.

Seconds and minutes make all the difference when an emergency arises, according to Glover. He wanted to open AEC after he realized East Oahu had no emergency recourse for pets.

Before its opening, the only urgent-care pet facilities were in Pearl City and Windward Oahu.

Automobile accidents are the most common emergency situations for pets, along with cardiopulmonary and kidney failure, food poisoning, Bufo toad poisoning and injuries inflicted by other animals.

AEC cares for, stabilizes and diagnoses pets in dire emergency situations with the goal of making the situation as easy for the pet and owner as possible.

AEC is located at 4819 Kilauea Ave., within Kahala Pet Hospital Veterinary Care of the Pacific.
