Kapiolani Community College’s Kupuna Education Center has a variety of classes and orientations this month for family caregivers, boomers, or for those searching for a career opportunity in home care.

“There are a lot more elderly out there, and they’re living much longer,” said Leah Ching, office assistant at KEC. “Now is the time to prepare and learn how to care for our kupuna while they’re healthy, before it becomes too overwhelming.”

For more details and to register for the classes, call 734-9211. Sign-ups are taken up to the class date. Topics and dates are listed below.

* Series I: Hands-On Skills for Family Caregivers Sept. 11, 18 and 25; also Oct. 12, 19 and 26. Fee is $15.

* Series IV: Dealing With Your Parents’ Stuff Sept. 15, 22, 29 and Oct. 6. Fee is $30 plus $12.45 for required book.
