Elijah Chu, a student at Kaimuki Middle School, took this shot along the Koko Head trail. The photo will become part of a digital rainbow collage by island youths at the Disney Aulani Resort when it opens its first phase next summer in Ko Olina.

Going into a rainbow of colors at Disney’s Aulani Resort will be a collage of 138 digital photos from Hawaii children, including images from East Oahu’s young photographers.

Students were asked to submit images showing the beauty of Hawaii from their personal perspective, using a single color in the rainbow spectrum. The selected photos will be compiled into a vibrant collage and be prominently displayed at the West Oahu resort when phase one opens next summer.

Receiving $100 gift cards for their artwork were area students Elijah Chu of Kaimuki Middle School and Kainalu Spear of Unity School.

The project is a partnership between the resort, Hawaii Arts Alliance and the state’s Creative Industries Division (film office).

“We applaud Disney and the Aulani team for their dedication to featuring local artists at their new resort and are thrilled to be involved in helping them showcase the talents of Hawaii’s students in this creative and lasting way,” said Georja Skinner, CID administrator.
