The Hanauma Bay Education Program will present four Thursday evening programs this month to mark 10 years of protecting the coral reef ecosystem reserve at Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.

The free public lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. in the nature preserve’s theater on the following topics:


Oct. 7 - “Keeping Bad Critters Out,” Scott Godwin, protection specialist

Oct. 14 - “Species Galore,” Randy Kosaki, chief scientist of Papahanaumokuakea

Oct. 21 - “A History of Protection and Recognition,” ‘Aulani Wilhelm, Papahanaumokuakea superintendent

Oct. 28 - “Shipwrecks and More,” Kelly Gleason, Papahanaumokuakea archaeologist
