Hahaione Elementary School stood out in HECO’s 2010 Home Energy Challenge for its creative tips on using energy wisely.

The school won in the inaugural category of Energy Conservation Project in collaboration with Kaiser High’s Communication Arts & Technology Learning Center.

Hahaione’s student council partnered with Kaiser to film energy conservation messages delivered through music and movement. The prize-winning motto for their public service announcement is this: “If we do this together, we can keep this world forever.”

The messages were then broadcast on the school’s closed-circuit TV to the entire student body and shared via DVD with Kamiloiki and Aina Haina elementary schools, Kaiser High and Niu Valley Middle.

“All the Energy Conservation Project entries were impressive and set a high standard for the first year of this category,” said Kaiulani de Silva, Hawaiian Electric Co.‘s director of education and consumer affairs.

“We want to congratulate all of the students and their families for making a difference in our community.”
