Students in grades 3-12 from all Hawaii schools are invited to submit entries for the 2010-2011 Star Poets Contest, with readings and an awards ceremony to be held next May at Paliku Theatre in Kaneohe.

Deadline is Jan. 28, 2011, and three poems on any topic (maximum 20 lines each) are welcome. They may be mailed to Star Poets Contest c/o Susan St. John, Windward Community College, 45-720 Keaahala Road, Kaneohe HI 96744.

The top prize is $50 in each grade, and winning poems will be published in the Star Poets Journal.

An additional Humanities prize will go to one or more poems “that explore bridges between Hawaii’s past and future or ways in which Hawaii is special.”

Co-sponsoring the 11th annual competition are WCC, the Hawaii Writing Project and the Hawaii Council for the Humanities, with support from Windward Arts Council.
