It’s official: Side Street Inn on Da Strip at 614 Kapahulu Ave. is now open for business.

Chef Colin Nishida’s new restaurant opened July 25 and can seat up to 200 people in the 7,000-square-foot space, located on the ground floor of the Prudential building - plenty of room to host a slew of loyal customers, new diners and hungry visitors.

“Right now we’re still working on our menu,” Nishida said. “The food is going to be a little different than Side Street Inn, and we’ll be using a lot of fresh island fish and other local produce and things we can find in Hawaii as well.

Right now we’re just working on bringing another great place to eat in Kapahulu.”

Side Street Inn originally opened on Hopaka Street as a sports and karaoke bar in 1992 and has grown into a popular eatery that the general public, celebrity chefs and presidents alike have all frequented over the years.

“We’ve also got plenty of parking here,” he joked, “and this location is much more spacious.

“We’re open from 3 p.m. to midnight seven days a week, too, so come down and check us out!”
