If it’s time to simplify your life, Wilhelmina Rise resident Marilyn Nagel can help you learn to live clutter free in six evening sessions.

Registration for her course, “Unclutter Your Life Inside and Out,” runs from May 15-27 at Kaimuki Community School for Adults. Classes meet Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m. June 6-July 20 at the high school. Call 733-8460 or go to http://kcsa.k12.hi.us.

“This is not a traditional organization class,” said Nagel. “This is about the internal workings of human nature.”

The extreme hoarder can benefit, as well as those who just want to be more organized. One suggestion she makes is to break projects into very small tasks and put it on the calendar like a doctor’s appointment.

Early on in life, Nagel discovered her knack for living a clutter-free life. When she was 10, she arrived at camp late because of illness, so all the bookshelf cubbyholes were full. She got a cubby with a door on it, which meant it wouldn’t matter how she stuffed her clothes in it. When it came time for inspection, they said her bunk is beautiful. Extra credit would be given if the cubby with the door was neat.

“When they opened it up, mine was the neatest one,” said Nagel. “That was the beginning of recognizing that there was more value in being organized, and it was worth the time.”

She’s taught these classes for the past five years, and also will teach the course in five sessions at Kapiolani Community College from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays, June 7-July 12. To register there, call 734-9211.

She also plans a “Clutter Free for Life” class at Kapiolani Women’s Center, taught in one session for part 1, and two sessions for part 2, June 3 to October. For more information, call 535-7000.
