Two environmental groups are joining hands to celebrate World Ocean Day by cleaning up Kawaikui Beach Park in Aina Haina.

Volunteers will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the park to clear the invasive algae and litter from the shoreline. Malama Maunalua and Beach Environmental Awareness Campaign Hawaii (BEACH) are sponsoring the cleanup with contributions from Kale’s Natural Foods, Ben & Jerry’s and GreenSaks (makers of reusable shopping bags).

Also participating are Livable Hawaii Kai Hui and state Rep. Lyla Berg, who will speak at the event at 3 p.m.

Wear sturdy shoes and bring a rake, bucket, sunscreen and hat. To register, call 393-2168 by Thursday (June 7).
