Hawaii Kai native Sean Kido received the Bronze Star aboard the USS Kitty Hawk July 2 while it was moored in Pearl Harbor for RimPac exercises. The award came from the Navy lieutenant’s work as officer in charge of the strike group’s explosive ordnance disposal unit while deployed to Iraq. He’s credited with - are you ready for this?- leading his 12-man detachment in 109 direct-action missions, 16 counter IED operations and 33 reconnaissance missions, contributing to the capture of 315 insurgents and the seizure and destruction of 198,000 rounds of small arms and 2,600 pounds of ordnance, among other brave acts ...
