Speaking of making life better for elders, Sierra, a golden retriever/border collie mix, recently passed her therapy dog tests and reported to work at Maunalani Nursing & Rehab Center where she visits rooms, retrieves balls, accepts lots of brushing and petting, walks with patients and does tricks to amuse and distract them from anxieties. According to the home’s rehab manager, Laureen Jiminez, the dog also is sensitive to their discomfort.“Many times she will approach a crying resident with a lick to the hand and a look of bewilderment,” Lauren reports. “Needless to say, the crying often turns to laughter or a smile” ...
