An 11-year-old from Aina Haina has returned for the annual King of the Groms West Coast skateboard qualifier in California, where he placed in three events to make the finals for next month. Heimana Reynolds placed second in Expert Bowl, third in Intermediate Street and seventh in Expert Mini ramp.

The competition drew skateboarders from as far as Canada, Florida and of course Hawaii ... Army National Guard Pvt. Changbum Kang (Kaiser 2009) has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. ... Kaiser Permanente has hired Aina Haina attorney Craig Nakamoto to be its health and regulatory lawyer. Good choice: First of all he went to my alma mater, University of Oregon, for his undergrad and law degrees. That wasn’t enough, though. Craig also has a master of law from Boston University law school and has spent 20 years in the field here in Hawaii ... Busy East Oahu dance teacher Salome Sato is starting up a line dancing class at Our Redeemer Lutheran School on Tuesday nights in January. “We dance to rumbas, waltzes, cha chas, as well as good ol’country music,” she says (737-4596) ...

Waialae Iki’s Susan Park leads Project HelpTalkHawaii sessions with displaced workers each week-day through this Friday in Honolulu.
