The Pau Hana Parrot Heads will flock to Dixie Grill in Aiea from 2 to 9 p.m. this Saturday for a Summer Membership Bash.

Now in its fourth year, the gathering serves as a benefit for the Wounded Warriors Transition Unit, which assists soldiers who have suffered injuries either physical or emotional and their families.

“The whole mission of the club is to party with a purpose,” said Parrot Head Lee Walters. “In the past we’ve done stuff for other organizations, and this year we decided we wanted to raise money for the military.”

The Pau Hana Parrot Head Club is part of the national nonprofit organization Parrot Heads in Paradise.

The Oahu chapter, based in Kapolei, started in 2005 and brings together folks who live the island life, listen to Jimmy Buffett music and love to party for a good cause.

“The whole thing started out as a Jimmy Buffett fan club for a bunch of us that lived out in Kapolei, Mililani ... but it’s morphed into a social group for everyone on the island,” Walters said, noting they often get together for a day at the beach with live music blowing in the breeze.

“Usually when we have a gathering we like to encourage our members to bring in food donations or school supplies,” he added. Last year the group raised more than $5,000 and donated various goods and food items to Hawaii FIDO, Hawaii Assisted Living, Aloha United Way, Hawaiian Humane Society. They also took part in multiple beach and ocean cleanup activities.

The weekend bash is free and open to anyone interested in joining the club. Raffle tickets for door prizes and silent auction items will be on sale to raise funds for the Wounded Warriors program.

Entertainment will be provided by local group Borderline and the Tropical Balladeer, John Friday, a Florida musician who specializes in folk, country, classic rock, reggae and Americana music from artists such as Kenny Chesney, Jerry Jeff Walker and, of course, Jimmy Buffett. Food and drinks will be available through Dixie Grill.
