* FOOD EXHIBIT Kapolei Library hosts the traveling Smithsonian exhibit,

Key Ingredients: America by Food, from Sept. 2 to Oct. 18 featuring a variety of displays and free programs. This week’s schedule includes Kapolei High students presenting what they’ve learned in culinary class at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 6, and Terry Phillips of Aloun Farms giving tips on buying key ingredients at 7 p.m. Sept. 9. * CHILDREN’S COUNCIL

The Leeward Oahu Community Children’s Council meets at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in state office building conference room 101 at 601 Kamokila Blvd. in Kapolei. All parents of children with special needs are welcome. Call 672-6265.

* PERFORMING ARTSSunshine Generation Children’s Performing Group begins classes in Kapolei Sept. 3 and 4 for children ages 3 to 16, beginner to advanced. For location and details, call 489-1998.

* LIBRARY PLAY Kapolei Library begins its Thursday fall play mornings at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 for keiki ages 2 to 5. Call 693-7050.

* DISASTER READY The American Red Cross and Central Pacific Bank sponsor a free disaster preparedness seminar at 6 p.m. Sept. 4 at the bank’s Pearl Highlands Branch. Reservations are recommended; Red Cross disaster supplies and first aid kits also are available for purchase. Call 544-0500.

* KUNIA MUSIC Ho’okahileo performs from 9 p.m. to midnight Sept. 5 at Auntie Pasto’s in Kunia Shopping Center, which has live music every first and third Friday. Call 680-0005.

* HEALTHY BABIES Meadow Gold hosts a preliminary round of its annual Healthy Baby Contest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at Pearlridge Center Downtown. Call 488-0981.

* SQUARE DANCING The Paradise Shufflers Square Dance Club begins its third round of classes and registration at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Manana Community Park Community Center, 1210 Waimano Home Road in Pearl City. * VOLLEYBALL CLINICS The USA Volleyball Association conducts free clinics for West Oahu players ages 11 to 17 from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 6 and 13 at Waianae District Park gym. * H-POWER COMMENTS Public comment is due by Sept. 7 on the city plans (EIS preparation notice) to expand the H-Power plant in Campbell Industrial Park, specifically a 900-ton-per-day mass burn waterwall municipal waste combuster unit and a turbine generator. Call Russell Okoji at 891-9906.

* MISSION’S 90TH Soto Mission of Aiea celebrates its 90th anniversary from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 7 at 99-045 Kauhale St. with food, produce, plants, arts and crafts, games, prizes, entertainment and demonstrations.
