Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* FOOD EXHIBIT Kapolei Library hosts the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, Key Ingredients: America by Food, which offers a variety of displays and free programs. This week has environmentalist Hunter Heaivilin discussing sustainable gardening at 7 p.m. Sept. 16; Nyla Fujii-Babb telling food stories at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20; and food writer Joan Namkoong speaking on “Key Ingredients to Hawaii’s Cuisine” at 7 p.m. Sept. 23. * EWA LITTLE LEAGUE Ewa Little League meets at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Ewa Beach Community Center to elect its 2009 board of directors. All interested residents are welcome to attend and join the league. A $1 membership fee will be collected prior to voting. * ROYAL MUSIC The Royal Hawaiian Band plays a free concert at noon Sept. 17 at Kapolei Hale. Call 922-5331.

* WAIPAHU REUNION The Waipahu High School Class of 1984 plans a 25-year reunion Sept. 18-20 in Las Vegas. Call 428-4721.

* BON DANCE Hawaii United Okinawa Association presents its Autumn Okinawa Dance Matsuri from 5 to 10 p.m.Sept.20 at Hawaii Okinawa Center, 94-578 Ukee St. Planned are music, food and plenty of bon dancing. (Practice is at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at the center.) Call 676-5400.

* PRIMARY ELECTION West Oahu polling sites are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 20 for the 2008 Hawaii Primary Election. (Vote early from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sept. 18 at Aiea Shopping Center and at Kapolei Hale.)

*ALOHA FESTIVALS Pearlridge Center hosts its fifth annual Aloha Festivals Keiki Ho’olaulea from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 20 with entertainment, activities and the Royal Court (at 10 a.m.). Call 488-0981.

* HI-5 DRIVE Iroquois Point Elementary School hosts its first HI-5 recycling drive from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 20. Call 499-6500.

* BOOK SIGNING Borders Waikele hosts the following book signings this month: Jennifer Lovins’ children’s book at noon Sept. 20; John Wythe White’s A High and Beautiful Wave at 2 p.m. Sept. 20; Kevin Whitton’s Green Hawaii at noon Sept. 21; and Matthew Kaopio’s Hawaiian Family Album at noon Sept. 27. * SOCIAL SECURITY Jane Yamanuto-Burigsay of the Social Security Administration discusses the system and its online services in a free workshop at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at Waipahu Library. Call 675-0358.

* PAJAMA PARTY Waianae Library hosts a free Preschool Pajama Party for keiki ages 3-5 (parents or caregivers must be present) at 6 p.m. Sept. 24. Registration limited to 15 people; call 697-7868 by Sept. 23.

* TAI CHI Christopher K. Eng demonstrates “Tai Chi for Health” at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 25 at Pearl City Library. The free program is for seniors and other interested adults. Wear comfortable clothes for the interactive 45-minute session. Call 453-6566.

* SLACK KEY Ray Sowders performs Hawaiian music and oldies from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Waipio Big City Diner on Ukee Street, Call 678-8868.

* CRUISE NIGHTS Ohana Cruz Nights for area car fans are at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at Bob’s Big Boy in Mapunapuna and 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Kapolei Home Depot parking lot. Call 423-1198.
