Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* NEIGHBORS The Aiea Neighborhood Board meets at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at Aiea Library. Call 768-3710.

* ANIMATED FILM Ewa Beach Library, through a grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Ewa Beach Community Fund, shows an animated film about “a martial arts panda” at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 13. Call 689-1204.

* WEIGHT LOSS A weight-loss challenge begins Jan. 13 and runs through March 3 in Aiea, with the top three winners getting cash prizes. The group meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Call 478-1842.

* COLLEGE FAIR GEAR UP Hawaii sponsors a college fair of information and resources, representatives from UH campuses and groups, prizes, entertainment and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at Pearlridge Center. Call 488-0981.


 

* SURF CLINIC Girls Who Surf has beginner lessons for kama’aina surfers at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 in Kapolei. Bring towel, sunscreen and drink. Fee is $60. To register, call 772-4583 or visit http://www.girlswhosurf.com.

* CAR WASH Palisades Baptist Church has a free car wash from 7 a.m. to noon Jan. 17 at 2251 Auhuhu St., along with an white elephant and bake sale. Proceeds go to Hawaii Foodbank.

* BOOK SALE The Friends of Waipahu Public Library conduct their semi-annual book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Adult Reading Section. Proceeds of the sale of used books, CDs, DVDs and videotapes benefit the library. Call 675-0358.

* ON STAGE Harmony performs at 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at Pearlridge Downtown, followed by Tali’ilagi Polynesian Production at 2:30. Call 488-0981.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at Waikele Center and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at Foodland in Ewa Town Center. Call 845-9966.

* LIBRARIES CLOSED All public libraries are closed Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

* ART EXHIBIT Board of Water Supply has its Conservation Week Poster and Poetry Contest winners on view Jan. 19-29 in the Kapolei Hale courtyard. Call 224-5995.

* QUILT PROJECT Volunteers with the Home of the Brave Quilt Project return to the Pacific Aviation Museum Jan. 19, Feb. 16, May 25 and July 4 with quilts for relatives of Hawaii soldiers who died serving in Iraq/Afghanistan. Call 441-1000.

* ROYAL MUSIC The Royal Hawaiian Band performs at noon Jan. 21 at Kapolei Hale. Call 922-5331.


* STORYTIME Aiea Library has a free program of read-aloud stories, fingerplays, sing-alongs and crafts for children 2 and up at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21-May 6. Keiki must be with an adult. Call 483-7333.

* HEALTHY AGING Pearl City Library hosts a “Healthy Aging” program at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 22 on how to save elders from accidental falls. Kapiolani Community College’s physical therapy assistants program sponsors the free, interactive session. Call 453-6566.

* CATHOLICS SING In celebration of Catholic Schools Week, students from Leeward parochial schools sing and dance from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 24 at Pearlridge Uptown.Call 488-0981.

* LATIN DANCE Noelani Hernandez teaches salsa, cha-cha, merengue and bachata from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at Kapolei Yoga & Dance Studio (338 Kamokila Blvd #201). Fee is $20 per person or $35 for couples by Jan. 15; prices are $30 and $50 thereafter. Call 223-8600.
