Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* PEARLRIDGE HOURSPearlridge Center is open New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Pearlridge Express ends its holiday run on Jan. 4. Call 488-0981.

* GOLF CLINIC Ko Olina Golf Academy hosts a free club-fitting and demo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 2 with PGA pro Tommy Hines and director of golf Greg Nichols. Call 676-5300.

* MAYOR’S OATH Kapolei Hale hosts an invitation-only swearing in of Mayor Mufi Hannemann at 10 a.m. Jan. 2, followed by formal programs and celebrations in downtown Honolulu. Call 768-6622.


 

* STARGAZING The Hawaiian Astronomical Society hosts star parties from sunset to 9 p.m. Jan. 3 and 31 at Waikele Community Park (94-870 Lumiaina St.), and Jan. 24 at Dillingham Airfield in Mokuleia. Call 551-1030.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at Pearlridge Center; 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 10 at Walmart Kunia; 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at Waikele Center; and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at Foodland in Ewa Town Center. Call 845-9966.

* ON STAGE The a cappella group Proof of the Pudding Ladies performs at 1 p.m. Jan. 4 at Pearlridge Downtown, followed by Hula O NaWahine at 2:30.Call 488-0981.

* YOUTH SPORTS A Youth Sports and Fitness Camp is planned from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 5 to 9 at a Pearl City park. Fee is $40 per day or $150 for the week. Call 478-1842.

* FREE ADMISSION Pacific Aviation Museum’s Education Department invites teachers to accept free Museum HCPS III Aligned Education Program packets for the classroom from Jan. 5 to 6. For tickets, present a current school ID at the USS Bowfin Submarine Park ticket office. Call 441-1000.

* TAI CHI The Kaiser Waipio Clinic has a series of tai chi classes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 7 through April 15. Fee is $81 for nonmembers. Call 432-2270.

* KEIKI PROGRAMS Pearl City Library offers two free children’s programs through February: Storytime and Craft with stories, sing-alongs, fingerplays and a make-and-take craft at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesdays from Jan. 7 through Feb. 25 for ages 3 years and up; and Puzzletime Storytime for toddlers (1 to 3 years) is at 9:30 a.m. Thursdays from Jan.8 through Feb. 26. Call 453-6566. * NEIGHBORS The Ewa Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at Ewa Beach Library. Call 768-3710.


* AVIATION LECTURE Noted author, historian, lecturer and decorated WWII Marine captain Ronald J. Drez visits the Pacific Aviation Museum to discuss two of his books, The Extraordinary Courage of Ordinary Men in WWII at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 and The Essence of Courage: Leadership at the Top at 2 p.m. Jan. 10. * WEIGHT LOSS A weight-loss challenge begins Jan. 13 and runs through March 3 in Aiea, with the top three winners getting cash prizes.The group meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Call 478-1842.

* QUILT PROJECT Volunteers with the Home of the Brave Quilt Project return to the Pacific Aviation Museum Jan. 19, Feb. 16, May 25 and July 4 with quilts for relatives of Hawaii soldiers who died serving in Iraq/Afghanistan. Call 441-1000.

* PRESCHOOL STORIES Aiea Library offers free read-aloud stories, fingerplays, sing-alongs and crafts for children 2 years and up at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21-May 6. Call 483-7333.

* LATIN DANCE Noelani Hernandez teaches salsa, cha cha, merengue and bachata from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at Kapolei Yoga & Dance Studio (338 Kamokila Blvd #201). Fee is $20 per person, $35 for couples by Jan.15; prices are $30 and $50 thereafter. Call 223-8600.
