Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* CELTIC DANCE Waipahu Library hosts the Celtic Keiki for a free performance of Irish jigs, music, stories and Irish history at 3:30 p.m. March 17, St. Patrick’s Day. Call 675-0358.

* BLOOD DRIVES Hawaii Blood Bank conducts donor drives from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 17 in the Campbell High School library and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22 at Ewa Town Center by Foodland. Call 845-9966.

* TRANSIT PLANS The city hosts community workshops on transit-oriented development at 6:30 p.m. March 17 (for Waipahu) at Waipahu Elementary school cafeteria, and at 7 p.m March 18 (for East Kapolei) at the Hawaiian Home Lands Hale Pono’i Building. Call 974-5352, ext. 222.


 

* BOE FORUM The state Board of Education holds a community forum for the Leeward District at 6:30 p.m. March 18 at Nanakuli Elementary School. Call 586-3230.

* SEWAGE TOUR The city’s Tour De Trash ‘09 visits the Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant, Sand Island plant, Synegro and more from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 19, starting and finishing at Kapolei Hale. To register, call 768-3200.

* NEIGHBORS Waipahu Neighborhood Board meets at 7 p.m. March 19 at the FilCom Center; the Pearl City board meets at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at Waiau District Park; and the Makakilo-Kapolei-Honokai Hale board meets at 7 p.m.March 25 at Kapolei High School cafeteria. Call 768-3710.

* ROTARY GALA Kapolei Rotary Club hosts its annual Evening at Lanikuhonua from 6 to 9 pm. March 20 at Ko Olina Resort and Marina. Tickets costs $50, and proceeds benefit the Rotary Foundation. Call 387-9284.

* CANCER RELAY Kapolei’s annual Relay for Life runs from 7 p.m. March 20 to 7 a.m. March 21 at Kapolei High School as a benefit for the American Cancer Society. Call 432-9165.

* RETIREMENT TALK Financial adviser Paul Berardo conducts a “Making Sense of Retirement"seminar at 10:30 a.m. March 21 at Kapolei Library. Call 693-7050.

* WORM WORKSHOP The Board of Water Supply and Waikiki Worm Co. presents a Worm Workshop and Garden Tour from 9:40 a.m. to noon March 21 at Halawa Xeriscape Garden, 99-1268 Iwaena St. Fee is $30 for the worm workshop (at 10 a.m.). Call 382-0432.

* WARRIOR ARTS Manny Mattos, a master of Hawaiian weapons, shares his art and the endangered hardwood he makes it from at 11 a.m. March 21 at Kapolei Library. Call 693-7050.


* SWAP MEET The Waipio Center Community Swap Meet is open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.March 21. Proceeds from booth fees support area schools and nonprofits. Call 288-2590.

* KOA DEADLINE Deadline is March 23 to submit nominations for the 2009 Kapolei Outstanding Achievement Awards. Call 674-3357.

* SPRING BREAK Hawaii public school students begin spring break March 23 and return to classes on April 6.
