Below are highlights of what’s coming up in West Oahu.

* SPRING READING The Kapolei Library hosts its fourth annual Spring Reading Program March 23 through April 4, where children in grades 6 and younger will receive weekly prizes and bonus awards, just for reading. Call 693-7050.

* KOA DEADLINE Deadline is March 23 to submit nominations for the 2009 Kapolei Outstanding Achievement Awards. Call 674-3357.

* SPEAKER TRAINING Pearl City Toastmasters president Janie Archuleta leads a luncheon meeting on “3 Quick Steps to Public Speaking"from 11:30 a.m.to 1 p.m. March 25 at the Plaza Club,900 Fort Street Mall.Hosted by the nonprofit Project Management Institute,the meeting costs $25 for club members, $30 general public. * SPRING BREAK Hawaii public school students begin spring break March 23 and return to classes on April 6.

*VACATION PROGRAMS Ewa Beach Library hosts five free programs during Spring Break,including a March Mystery Matinee at 1:30 p.m. March 24 and 31, a visit from Honolulu Emergency Medical Services paramedics at 10:30 a.m. March 25, a presentation of HTY’s Musubi Man at 2 p.m.April 1, and a Nurturing Approaches to Parenting workshop at 10:30 a.m. April 3. * NEIGHBORS Pearl City Neighborhood Board meets at 6:30 p.m. March 24 at Waiau District Park; and the Makakilo-Kapolei-Honokai Hale board meets at 7 p.m. March 25 at Kapolei High School cafeteria. Call 768-3710.

* KEIKI DANCE Children age 1 through 5 are invited to learn “Keiki Dance and Movement” at 9:30 a.m. March 25 at Pearl City Library. Call 453-6566.

* KAPOLEI PLAY Kapolei Performing Arts Center presents Into the Woods at 6 p.m. March 26 and 27 and 7:30 p.m. March 28 at the high school. Call 258-7313.

* SCHOOL CLOSURES All public schools are closed March 26 in observance of Prince Kuhio Day.

* SPAGHETTI BENEFIT Auntie Pasto’s Kunia sponsors a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser at 7 p.m. March 27 for the Kapolei Performing Arts Center. Tickets from the students cost $25, and proceeds support drama scholarships.

* MARSH HELP Hawaii Nature Center volunteers help restore Pouhala March in Waipahu from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 28 (rescheduled from March 21). Call 955-0100, ext. 18.

* STARGAZING The Hawaiian Astronomical Society hosts a public star party at sunset on March 28 at Waikele Community Park,94-870 Lumiaina St. Call 551-1030.

* BUNNY CARE Zac Johnson shares the proper ways to care for rabbits (he’s bringing along a few of his pets) at 10:30 a.m. March 28 at Kapolei Library. Call 693-7050.

* LISTEN STORY State Sen.Mike Gabbard holds a community meeting at 9 a.m. March 28 at the Kunia Shopping Center Starbucks. Refreshments will be served. Call 586-6830.

* ON STAGE Po’okela performs at 1 p.m. March 29 at Pearlridge Uptown, followed by Manutahi Tahitian Dance Co.at 2:30.Call 488-0981.

* LAB THEATRE Leeward Community College Lab Theatre presents A Queen for Romancia by Alvin Chan at 8 p.m.April 2-4 and 9-11. Admission is $10. Call 455-0380.

* RESTORATIVE YOGA Patricia Ossowski leads a workshop on stress relief and well-being through yoga at 5:30 p.m. April 3 in the YOGA4EWA studio (91-440A Pupu St.in Ewa Beach).Cost is $15, space is limited. Go to http://www.yoga4ewa.com.

* TEDDY BEARS The 12th annual Teddy Bear Round-Up and Family Resource Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 4 at Pearlridge Center Uptown, with donated bears going to Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii. Planned are entertainment, activities, parenting tips, prizes, refreshments and visits by Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Elmo and Dalmation. Call 951-0200.
